Luxury Inca Trail

Luxury Inca Trail Itinerary - 5 Days

DAY 1:

The big day has arrived. Today we meet our Quechua-speaking support team of porters at Piscacucho (km #82) and begin trekking the Inca Trail. We will head towards our first camp at Wayllabamba, on the way we will have a good view of the archaeological complex of Llactapata, where we will have lunch. Dinner and overnight in tents at the campsite.
Hiking: 5.7 miles/5.5 hours; between 7900-9678ft. All meals included.

DAY 2:

Possibly the hardest day of the trek, after a nutritious camp breakfast we head to the highest point of the trail - the impressive Warmihuañusca (Dead woman's pass 4200m/13780ft) where we will have an unbelievable panoramic view of the whole area and will observe different types of microclimates. Here, you will have a tremendous feeling of achievement mixed with relief on reaching the top. After lunch we will continue our walking down to Pacaymayu where we will camp and have dinner.
Hiking: 7 miles/7 hours; final elevation 10991ft. All meals included.

DAY 3:

This spectacular day brings us down into the the second most important pass of the trail at 3,850, having a guided visit at the archaeological complex of Runkurakay and the Inca citadel of Sayacmarca, where lunch will be served. Continue your trekking towards Phuyupatamarka (Cloud-level town), another important archaeological monument. After a short break you will continue walking to Wiñay Huayna (Forever Young) for a guided visit of this impressive Inca complex with a spectacular setting. Dinner and overnight at the camp.
Hiking: 6.25 miles/7 hours; final elevation 11975. All meals included.

DAY 4:

Our anticipation rises as we make our way to Intipunku (the Sun's Gateway) where we will be rewarded with the first breathtaking views of Machu Picchu. After spending time at the lookout point, we descend to the ruins and have a guided tour of the Machu Picchu sanctuary. After treasuring the day we catch a bus down to our charming accommodation in the colourful town of Aguas Calientes and celebrate our return to civilisation.
Hiking: 6.2 miles/5-6 hours. Machu Picchu's elevation is 7,874'. All meals included.

DAY 5:

First thing in the morning we return to Machu Picchu and have it virtually to ourselves before the local tourist train and inca trail hikers arrive (re-entry fee and transfer included). Today is also a great opportunity to climb Wayna Picchu, walk out to the Inca bridge or else just wander through the ruins soaking up the amazing atmosphere. We have a late lunch in Aguas Calientes before boarding the afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo and from there, take the bus to Cusco, arriving at approximately 7 p.m. Overnight in Cusco. Breakfast included. If you have the energy tonight you can explore Cusco's excellent nightlife. (B). (B / L)
